Tesco has been left red faced for the second time in a week, after being found selling crisps in one of its new “sweet-free” checkout lanes.
It comes after Tesco apologised on Monday for launching an in store raffle of a hamper of chocolate Easter Eggs to raise money for its partnership with Diabetes UK.Of the latest incident a Tesco spokesman said: “These products have clearly been put by the checkout by mistake. We’re trying to find out which store this is so we can make sure the products are moved.”
Dr Aseem Malhotra, Action on Sugar campaigner, who revealed both cases on social media, said he “didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.” Tesco has been widely praised by the DH and by health campaigners for its decision to ban sweets and unhealthy items from the till, a move resisted by several other leading supermarkets.
