Amazon has unveiled two drive-through grocery stores in Seattle after months of speculation.

The two stores, located in the SoDo and Ballard neighbourhoods, are currently in testing mode and only open to employees.

The stores will eventually open exclusively to Prime members, who will be able to order and pick up their groceries free of charge in as little as 15 minutes.

In a marketing video (above) released yesterday, Amazon claimed the click & collect site would sell “thousands of items at low prices” including fresh produce, high-quality meat and everyday essentials.

Customers will be able to order groceries online and pick them up at a dedicated time slot, the quickest of which is within 15 minutes. There will be no minimum order.

In the video, it appears customers are unable to enter the store and instead staff bring orders out to their cars.

The opening follows months of speculation over Amazon adding drive-through sites to its expanding its bricks-and-mortar portfolio.

In December, Amazon revealed its first physical store in the form of Amazon Go. The Seattle site uses technology to eliminate the need to pay at the till and is still in testing mode.

Later that month, The Grocer revealed Amazon Go had been trademarked in the UK and media reports have since suggested it is looking for potential sites in London.
