Morrisons has confirmed the appearance of some of its fresh products yesterday on the Amazon Pantry website was an error.
A number of Morrisons products appeared to go live with the online giant but were listed with sky-high prices and appeared in incorrect categories. For example, a four-pint jug of Morrisons 1% fat fresh milk was apparently on sale for £68.75, while Morrisons’ five family bananas had a price of £27.99. Other fresh products also popped up in categories such as electricals.
All Morrisons products had been removed by the end of the day.
A Morrisons spokesman confirmed the posts had been a mistake and that no Morrisons fresh products were currently available through Amazon.
Last week, Morrisons CEO David Potts revealed Morrisons had supplied 800 ambient grocery lines to Amazon. As yet, these have also yet to be listed on the online retailer’s Pantry site, but Potts suggested last week that the launch was “imminent” and The Grocer understands these products could become available as early as this week.
The brief appearance of fresh lines, however, does suggest that the much-anticipated launch of Amazon Fresh is also not far away. Last month, The Grocer revealed the service was set to launch in mid-May, with delivery trial runs having taken place in the London area over the past few weeks.
An initial soft launch is expected before a full rollout in June.
A spokesman for Amazon declined to comment.
