Asda’s clothing arm George has opened its first operation in Asia with a store in Singapore, as it eyes further international expansion.
In partnership with the Al-Futtaim Group, George will be located within retailer John Little’s 38,000 sq ft store in the Plaza Singapura in the city-state’s retail hub Orchard Road. The Plaza Singapura also houses a Marks & Spencer.
“Singapore is an exciting market for us. We’re confident that the Plaza Singapura shoppers will love the style and quality of our ranges and be amazed at the excellent value for money,” said George’s retail & international director Jo Whitfield.
The ranges stocked will be the same as in the UK including G21, Moda and South Dean Street and a large section will be dedicated to children’s wear.
Further George stores will be opening in Malta and across the Middle East later this year, Asda said.
“We’re pleased with the performance of our international franchises. When we opened our Malta store earlier this year, demand was so high that over half of stock was sold in the first two weeks and we had to replenish very quickly to meet customer demand,” Whitfield added.
A team has recently been established at the George base in Lutterworth, Leicestershire to manage franchise stores and partnerships.
