Online grocery sales at Sainsbury’s have broken the £1bn barrier.
Sainsbury’s, which has won Online Retailer of the Year for two years running at The Grocer Gold Awards, said it now delivers to more than 190,000 customers a week, with sales up 16% year-on-year.
The service was first launched in 1999 and operates out of 214 stores, delivering to 96% of UK postcodes.
“We’ve gone from strength to strength in recent years, and hitting £1bn in sales is a great testament to the dedication of our colleagues who always go the extra mile to deliver outstanding service for our customers,” said Sainsbury’s director of online, digital & cross-channel Jon Rudoe.
“We’re confident there is still a huge amount of potential for growth as our online grocery operation continues to complement our core supermarket business,” he added.
“Customers love the choice of shopping different channels at Sainsbury’s, and they reward us with their loyalty in store and online.”
Sainsbury’s is celebrating the sales milestone by temporarily increasing its staff discount to 20%.
