Tesco could be fined hundreds of thousands of pounds over visa breaches relating to foreign students working at its dotcom warehouse in Croydon.

The news comes after Tesco admitted it had been raided on 21 July by the UK Border Agency, with around 20 students found to have exceeded the hours allowed by their visas.

According to the Daily Telegraph, it could be facing fines totalling £200,000. The paper also reported that the cases of a further 15 students were still being investigated.

Yesterday Tesco said it “continued to cooperate fully with the UK Border Agency as they look into this issue”.

“We take our responsibilities as an employer very seriously and do not condone illegal working of any kind,” the supermarket said.
