Dairy Crest is planning to close its butters and spreads factory in Crudgington, Shropshire, as the hunt goes on for cost savings across the business.
The move would result in the loss of 160 jobs and would see Dairy Crest’s retail BSM production be consolidated at its plant in Kirkby, Liverpool. Bulk butter production from Crudgington would move to its Severnside creamery, while the technical development centre that is currently at Crudgington would also move to Kirkby.
Dairy Crest will shortly start consulting with employees on the proposal. If the closure goes ahead, Crudgington would shut down in 18 to 24 months.
The company said it hoped many of the current Crudgington staff would be able to relocate to other sites.
“Should Crudgington close, we will create around 50 additional roles at Kirkby and around 20 additional roles at Severnside,” it added in a statement.
