Some 5,000 Sainsbury’s staff descended on the Olympic Park this week to celebrate the supermarket chain’s sponsorship of the Paralympics.
Staff members from every store got to watch events such as wheelchair basketball and goalball after they were asked to nominate themselves or a colleague.
“There has been so much excitement about this event all year from when we first asked for nominations to attend until more recently when we ran a colleague t-shirt design competition,” said Jacki Connor, director of colleague engagement at Sainsbury’s.
“For nearly two years now, our colleagues have been getting behind the Paralympics and raising awareness with our 22 million customers that come through our doors every week. So taking them to watch the Games in action is a way for us to say thank you and to celebrate their hard work and success,” she added.
Special events have also been taking place in Sainsbury’s stores across the UK to mark the Games.
