Britain's oldest salmon smoker has opened its new £4.7m factory after the company was forced to relocate to make way for the Olympics 2012 site.
H Forman & Son's new 50,000 sq ft salmon-shaped building was opened by London Mayor Boris Johnson last week. The site, on Fish Island in East London, includes a restaurant and factory shop. The company supplies high-end restaurants and retailers as well as fine food by mail order and online.
A bridge over the River Lea will link Forman's new venue with the 2012 Olympic Stadium. Forman went through a 30-month tussle with the London Development Agency over its new location.
"This shows that with fantastic family firms like Forman's we can not only continue with traditional London jobs in this part of the East End but generate more employment as a result of the Olympics," Johnson told The Grocer.
