Kettle, Tyrrells and Scott Farms are all rolling out sweet potato crisp ranges this month.
Tyrrells is looking to tap into the trend for sweet and spicy food by adding Sweet Potato with Smoked Chipotle Chili to its veg crisp range.
The supplier already uses purple sweet potato in its Swanky Veg range, but this is its first product made only with sweet potato. The crisps launch in Waitrose in mid-March (rsp: £1.29/40g, £2.99/150g).
The new Kettle crisps, which come in Lightly Salted and Sweet Chilli flavours, are part of its “better for you range”. Unlike the Tyrrells product, which is cooked in sunflower oil, they are baked and contain 50% less fat than standard vegetable crisps.
“The new Kettle Sweet Potato Chips researched extremely positively with consumers and will fill the gap between healthier snacking and 100% authentic taste,” said Kettle marketing director Andrew Slamin. The crisps also go on sale this month in Waitrose (rsp: £2.49/80g).
Meanwhile, Scott Farms International, the largest importer of sweet potato into the UK, is launching Sweet Potato Chips at Food & Drink Expo on 24 March.
