Richard Harrow has stepped down as managing director of own-label frozen pizza maker Freiberger UK after more than 20 years in the role.
He is leaving the business to set up a new consultancy, RGH (UK) Services, which will specialise in advising the frozen food sector on market trends, frozen logistics as well as business and NPD strategies.
Harrow is being replaced at Freiberger by Andrew Thorne, who has been with the company for 15 years and previously held the role of sales director.
German-owned Freiberger is one of the biggest players in the own-label frozen food market, and supplies most of the major UK grocers with own-label frozen pizza. Harrow set up Freiberger’s UK business in 1994, and said the time had now come to pursue new opportunities.
“It’s time to let the next generation take up the mantel at Freiberger and broaden my experiences across the frozen food category,” he said. “As a consultant, my 30+ years’ experience can help senior executives understand consumer behaviour and develop business change programs in line with a changing market.”
Harrow will remain a non-executive director of Stateside Foods, one of Freiberger’s sister companies, until the end of the year. He is also chairman of the Pizza and Pasta Association, where he recently focused on helping the sector navigate the 2017 salt targets for retail pizza with the Department of Health.
