Like-for-like sales slumped at WH Smith in the past quarter, as the high street giant continued to wrestle with changes to its business.
Group sales fell 1% in the 15 weeks to 9 June. But like-for-like sales were down by 3% compared to the same period last year.
Sales at the travel business edged up 1% overall but were down 3% on a like-for-like basis over the period. On the high street, total sales were down 3% and like-for-likes down by 4%.
Despite the reduced turnover, the company insisted that margins were continuing to improve and that further cost savings had been identified.
