In 1988, then junior health minister Edwina Currie warned the British public that most of the egg production in the UK was affected by Salmonella.
The ramifications were colossal, causing egg sales to plummet.
Twenty-five years on, Edwina spoke to The Grocer’s deputy fresh foods editor, Richard Ford, on Skype from her home, to talk about whether she had any regrets, what she thinks of the industry now…and how she likes her eggs.
