Kraft Foods acted “irresponsibly and unwisely” during its takeover of Cadbury, according to a report by MPs to be published later today.
The House of Commons’ business select committee said the US food manufacturer appeared either “incompetent” or “cynical” after going back on its pledge to keep open Cadbury’s Somerdale production facility – a U-turn that means 400 jobs will go.
Kraft was also urged to engage with trade union representatives at Cadbury “as a matter of urgency” – but MPs welcomed assurances from Kraft executive Marc Firestone that no further compulsory redundancies would be made for at least two years.
“The report is very critical and is profoundly sceptical,” a Westminster source told the Guardian.
“It expresses concerns about the extent to which we can trust the assurances of Kraft.”
