Dairy Crest is to install two biomass boilers at its Davidstow creamery, reducing the company's carbon emissions by 12%.
The boilers, which will cost £3.2m to install, will be fuelled by wood pellets from Yorkshire. Dairy Crest claimed the project was a major step towards its aim of cutting carbon emissions by 28% by 2020.
"The feasibility study undertaken really opened our eyes to the opportunities it offers," the company stated.
The plant will be built, operated and maintained by energy company Dalkia and will be operational by April 2011.
