Asda has promoted Andrew Thompson to head of games. Thompson joined Asda less than a year ago as head of new business in music and video games, and was previously product director at Gamestation for six years.
Asda said its video game sales were up 20% year-on-year by value, and it was now taking on high-street game shops by trialling pre-owned games in eight stores. "Andrew's role will be to maintain and grow the category for the future, including looking at new technology," an Asda spokeswoman said.
Tesco is also trialling pre-owned games in four stores after the launch of a trial in Basildon Pitsea four months ago.
Thompson replaces Duncan Cross who has been appointed buying manager for baby. Cross in turn replaces Andy Peake, who has been promoted to general manager in optical and pharmacy.
