The man credited with masterminding Asda’s influential price guarantee scheme has quit after just a year as marketing director.
Jon Owen is leaving the supermarket to become director of Shop Direct Group’s Very brand. He took over as Asda’s marketing director from Mark Sinnock, who himself spent just 15 months in the role.
The news marks the second high profile departure at Asda in just over a week. Chief operating officer Simon King unexpectedly left by “mutual consent” after just six months in the role. Asda is expected to announce a successor to King shortly.
Very launched in 2009 and sells fashion aimed at 25 to 45 year olds, including brands such as Adidas, French Connection and Superdry. It also offers home and garden furniture, electrical equipment, entertainment products, jewellery and beauty products.
Owen is expected to report into Shop Direct retail director Gareth Jones.
