Sainsbury’s has finally named its new marketing chief – a year after Gwyn Burr vacated the role.
Mark Horgan (pictured) joins from Mastercard and counts stints at Mars and Nestlé on his CV. He takes on responsibility for the supermarket’s marketing strategy more than a year after Burr stepped up to the role of customer service director in June 2010.
His start date has yet to be confirmed, with Sainsbury’s saying only that he would begin “within the next six months”. Horgan will report to commercial director Mike Coupe.
“Mark brings with him a wealth of experience,” said commercial director Mike Coupe. “He has a fantastic background working for high-profile brands and has the expertise needed to develop the Sainsbury’s brand”
Horgan added: “Sainsbury's is renowned as a brand with an innovative, exciting approach to marketing that listens and quickly responds to the needs of its customers, something that is vitally important in the competitive world of retail.
“The talented team it has in place has delivered a number of industry leading campaigns over the last few years.”
