Dutch retailer Ahold has sold its US Foodservice business to private equity groups Clayton, Dubilier & Rice and Kohlberg Kravis Roberts for $7.1bn (£3.5bn).

Ahold announced in November last year that it was selling US Foodservice as part of a strategic review. In 2006, it generated sales of $19.2bn (£9.6bn).

“We have focused on restructuring US Foodservice, strengthening its capabilities and restoring profitability,” said Anders Moberg, president and CEO of Ahold. “The agreement we have been able to reach with CD&R and KKR is the result of the hard work and dedication of everyone at US Foodservice.”
