Kingfisher Beer Europe has signed a deal as the exclusive UK distributor of Indonesian beer brand Bintang.
The 4.7% abv pilsner is being rolled out into the on-trade now, with a retail launch set to follow in the near future, said Kingfisher, adding the deal marked the first time the brew would be available in the UK.
The brand was “ideally positioned” to capitalise on the “burgeoning pan-Asian” restaurant sector, but also had “much wider appeal” than the on-trade, said Kingfisher CEO Damon Swarbrick.
“While the industry continues to explore craft beer, there is clearly significant demand for premium, authentic, easy-drinking world beers, and we believe Bintang is perfectly suited to meet this demand,” he said.
The agreement between the brewer and Multi Bintang Indonesia – part of Heineken – also includes Kingfisher taking on distribution in a number of other European markets.
