Company: R&R
Rsp: £1.29 per 220ml pot
Competition: Ben & Jerry’s, Häagen-Dazs
The sell: R&R is expecting Potz to plug a gap for a more everyday ice cream treat that can also rival premium tubs from the likes of Ben & Jerry’s through to Häagen-Dazs.

The consumer
The packaging is busy, but fit for purpose. On opening, the contents of the tub appear attractive, with a good scattering of chocolate chips and caramel swirls on top. At this point, things go downhill. The ice cream tastes synthetic and overly sweet, perhaps to mask the fact that, contrary to initial appearances, there is little caramel sauce or chocolate running through the ice cream.

The coldness diminishes what little chocolate flavour there is and without the label I wouldn't know this was a Rolo dessert. This is not a product fit to rival premium brands. Two stars (out of five)

The retailer
This is a traditional, old-style, soft vanilla ice cream with chocolate chips mixed with the great Rolo taste of caramel. The colourful standout design of this conveniently sized 220ml tub will attract consumers and the taste will appeal to kids and grown-ups of all ages, including myself. If the other Potz products are equally good, R&R should be on to a winner with this one! Four stars

The Grocer
This is a poor man's McFlurry. It's positioned as an affordable, premium treat but there was nothing premium about the dismal serving of caramel sauce that went into this product. While the attractive packaging is likely to draw consumers, if they're anything like me, they'll have no qualms about giving away their last Rolo Potz. One star
