Spanish hard discounter Dia saw its profits rocket by 55% last year as recession- hit Spanish shoppers sought out a bargain. In its home market, Dia generates more sales than all the other discounters put together, but the company was also praised by our judges for its success in other regions, such as South America. “Following the spinoff through Carrefour, Dia now has free hand to unleash its growth potential”, said one.
