On Wednesday evening the great and the good of the grocery industry gathered for The Grocer Gold Awards ceremony 2012, at London’s Guildhall.

The event has got all the glitz and glam of the Oscars ceremony, but none of the tantrums and tiaras.

As well as acknowledging outstanding innovation, sales performance and unparalleled levels of service in a challenging economic climate, this year’s event also saw the launch of the hidden hero category, launched to recognise the unsung stars of grocery.

A cleaning lady landed the inaugural prize, but who else cleaned up?
