Based on the concept that ‘the clue is in the name’, John West conjures up a colourful array of seafaring characters including ‘Short-fuse’ Francis, ‘Sleepwalking’ McGregor, and Eduardo ‘Wobblechops’. Readers of a certain age may well be reminded of the (false) urban legend about the names of members of Captain Pugwash’s crew.
