This large public market, which has been around in one guise or another since 1207, is one of Barcelona’s favourite tourist haunts. The market – which is accessed from Las Ramblas – is a “gastronomic temple”, according to El Bulli founder Ferran Adria, selling a vast assortment of fresh meat, fish, dairy and other produce. In 2005, the market, which also operates its own cookery schools, was awarded the accolade of the best market in the world by the World Markets Congress.
