With sales of CAD$32bn, and more than 1,000 stores trading under 22 different banners, Loblaw is Canada’s “largest, most innovative and best grocer”. Its major own-label brand, President’s Choice, is “the best private label programme in North America”. Its No Frills fascia is “Loblaw’s biggest star” right now, but a “daring” urban format store opened to “rave reviews” in Toronto. It even took its cheap chic clothing line, Joe Fresh, to New York’s 5th Avenue.
