Established in 2005, Nakumatt is “doing remarkable things in East Africa”, and seen as a real trailblazer as it has adopted “world-class retail practices” including loyalty cards, 24-hour shopping and an imminent move into online retailing. Its success has also come by targeting middle-income consumers, and expanding its assortment. With a presence in Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania, it’s now planning to enter Gambia, Zimbabwe and Ethiopia.
