Salmon prices are up month on month due to concerns over potential algal blooms in Chile. Seawater temperatures in Norway are down 29% on last year, which has reduced salmon growth rates and will likely limit harvest weights through H1 2018.
Norwegian cod prices have fallen as fishing gets underway for 2018. However, the Barents Sea cod quota has been agreed at 775,000 tonnes, down 13% year on year, meaning supplies may tighten later in the year.
Low coldwater prawn catches from Canada has limited supplies reaching the EU, which is increasing demand for Norwegian prawns and keeping prices higher year on year. In addition, the 2018 prawn TAC for the Norwegian Sea has been set 20% lower year on year at 2,000 tonnes.
Skipjack tuna catches have risen in the Western Pacific Ocean, reducing tuna prices in Thailand. High supply has resulted in canneries reducing their buying activities.
