Operating in 16 markets across the Sub- Sahara, and with a CAGR of 10.6% since 2008, Shoprite is also “well positioned to tackle the new competition from Walmart’s acquisition of Massmart”, thanks to “its expertise in serving lowincome shoppers through a variety of store formats”, including Shoprite supermarkets, Checkers hypermarkets, and its Usave discount banner, which has grown to 270 outlets (up 75%) since 2008.
