Woe betide anyone that comes between a Brit and their sandwich. Earlier this year, that person was Sainsbury’s CEO Mike Coupe, who removed any fancy ‘Taste the Difference’ sandwiches from his £3 meal deal and replaced them with a sorry-looking lot. He risibly claimed the new range was “better quality and better value” than before. Social media howled in disgust and #sandwichgate was born.
