Someone’s been busy in the kitchen. Asda’s added a number of lines to its in-store bakery. Our picks are savoury beauties Extra Special Muesli Bread and Bacon & Cheese Turnover, alongside the modestly fancy Extra Special Palmier.

New baked treats have appeared elsewhere in store. Asda has grown its OMV plant-based range – added in January – with Cherry Bakewell Chunky Cookies. And the retailer has also added lines from value biccies brand The Bakehouse.

Iceland

Iceland TGI

Iceland has overhauled its exclusive TGI range

For many fast-casual restuarants, grocery is now a key battleground for sales – as hard-pressed shoppers eat out less to save cash. No wonder Iceland has upped its game in the range with its exclusive TGI Fridays range.

The brand has relaunched Cajun Chicken Pasta with Chorizo, giving it an improved recipe. That’s joined in freezers by a selection of savoury goodies badged as new. Jumbo Hash Brown Dogs, Dragonfire Boneles Chicken Bites, Mozzarella XL Dippers and Sesame Chicken Breast Fillets look best paired with easy-going friends, chilled booze and plenty of paper napkins.

Iceland Luxury

Iceland’s Luxury range has a series of new additions

Iceland shoppers in less of a mood to party can sate themselves with a nice bit of fish. Lightly Dusted Cod Fillets, Creamy Whitefish Steaks in Cheese Sauce and Hot & Spicy Breaded Prawns (with a two-chilli heat rating) are all recent additions.

Then there are the ready meal from the retailer’s Luxury range. Lines bearing a ‘new’ flash span Chinese, Indian, Italian and Russian cuisine – from Crispy Sweet & Sour Chicken to Beef Stroganoff. The Chicken Tikka Saag looks especially inviting.

Lidl

Lidl

Lidl is signposting its new ice cream SKUs despite it being a while until peak season for frozen treats

Deluxe Steak Hash with “rich onion & ale gravy”? Yes, please! It’s chilled, trendy and looks comforting as heck. Why not chase it with one or two Gelatelli Supreme Toffee Flavour & Vanilla Flavour Ice Cream Cones? (And don’t mind the frosty weather.)

Waitrose and Marks & Spencer

Marks & Spencer

Fixtures marketing Red Pop apples have emerged in Waitrose

Look out, Pink Lady! Watch your back, Jazz! There’s a new apple brand in town. Produced by Italy’s South Tyrolean VOG Consortium, Red Pop made its UK debut in early 2023. And it’s been making marketing moves since, including ads on London buses last spring. Its latest activity included branded displays in Waitrose.

On the own label side of things, Marks & Spencer is tapping the current cold snap with a range of classy ambient soup. Calabrian Mushroom & Truffle and Lobster Bisque feature among the mouthwatering choices.
