“Increasingly nimble for a monolithic operation”, Tesco is “a class operator”, impressing judges with its “well established and diversified business model”, “continued innovation, latterly in e-commerce and mobile”, and its “willingness to admit mistakes and take action”, exiting Fresh & Easy, revamping UK stores and, most recently, “putting its hands up over ‘Horsegate’”. And despite massive international expansion already, with South Korea in particular a “jewel in the crown”, there is “still lots of potential for further growth in markets such as South Africa, Romania, Bulgaria, Vietnam, Indonesia”.
