Woolworths is a retail all-rounder in the mould of Wal-Mart and Tesco, though with a far smaller geographic footprint. In South Africa, which accounts for over 80% of sales, Woolworths is “synonymous with quality and innovation” and “enjoys strong brand loyalty among high-income consumers” owing to “its wide range and sophisticated own label”. It has also been “a leader in environmental management and sustainable sourcing”.
