Asda is aiming to control 5% of the online electricals market by 2012.

The retailer is taking on Tesco with the launch of a new electricals website selling thousands of electrical products including televisions, washing machines and fridges. Last week, it dropped the price of a DVD player to £9.

The online electrical market is currently worth £1.9bn and is growing at 30% a year, according to Asda.
