Asda is to open and trial two standalone George clothing stores this September.

The stores, which will be set up in Leeds and Croydon in spaces of about 10,000 sq ft, will be trialled for at least a year before any further shops are opened.

The range has a 6.6% share of the UK clothing market and generates £1bn in annual sales.

In February the supermarket chain revealed that its best performing categories included George clothing which it said in percentage terms “continued to trade very strongly growing in the mid-20s”.
