Asda has launched what it claims is the cheapest supermarket lunchtime meal deal.
It spans the retailer’s entire food-to-go range of 336 items and works on a 3 for 2 basis, meaning it is not limited to a sandwich, drink and snack combination.
With prices starting at £1.60, it comes in below Tesco’s and Sainsbury’s £3 set price meal deals and Boots’ £3.39 or less price point. M&S has the most expensive lunchtime meal deal, priced at £5.
Asda said its meal deal was “the perfect quick and easy lunch that won’t break the bank”, adding it wanted to provide shoppers with “simple, convenient and tasty lunchtime options that won’t break the bank but will be sure to satisfy their taste buds”, said Asda food for now senior manager Elizabeth Ruddiman.
Asda’s launch follows Tesco adding several new SKUs to its meal deal lineup in a bid to boost sales as lockdown restrictions began to ease. Notable branded entrants included Zinda Foods’ chicken makhani ‘air wrap’, Pots & Co chocolate & salted caramel pots and Grenade Energy drinks.
