Asda has stepped up its campaign to increase the number of over 50s working at its stores.

The retailer is on the look out for 10,000 ‘christmas colleagues’ of which it wants 3,300 to be over 50 years old.

The new recruits will fill a variety of customer service roles such as car park hosts, greeters and bag packers in the run up to christmas.

Asda said that on average there will be 39 jobs per store and that “many will turn into permanent roles in the new year”.

Asda’s people director David Smith said: “Stores that have taken on over 50s since April have seen absence levels drop and morale rise, so finding more goldies for christmas was the next natural step.”
