Asda has reported a huge uplift in sales of milk during its price promotion last weekend.

The supermarket sold 1.5 million more pints during the Friday-to-Sunday promotion than the previous weekend, according to a spokeswoman. The price of two pints was dropped to 50p, with four pints selling for £1 and six pints for £1.50.

Farmers have blasted cuts by other multiples following Tesco’s rollout of its low-cost Fresh’n’Lo milk. Asda insisted the increased volume sold last weekend meant more money was being paid to dairy farmers.
