Asda is investing £30m to introduce Wal-Mart technology aimed at providing a speedier checkout service. The technology includes state-of-the-art Telxons handheld scanners which will enable staff to scan through customers baskets while they queue. The information will be loaded onto a card, ready to give to the cashier, reducing actual checkout time. "Scanners will also be available to staff around the store enabling them to carry out activities normally carried out behind the scenes such as checking of stock levels and printing of shelf edge price labels," an Asda spokesperson said. Thermal printers will allow more efficient printing of till receipts. {{NEWS }}
