Dutch get back into action Shipments of Dutch Royal Crest back bacon to the UK have topped the 100,000 tonne mark again this year. The total to the end of week 49 was 100,500t, with an estimated tonnage for week 50 of some 2,195t. With this week in hand for Royal Crest and without counting other Dutch shipments, the Dutch industry is working flat out for its UK customers. Total shipments could peak at around 3,000t a week if all Dutch bacon is counted. This has been helped in no small measure by the growing share of back bacon in the rasher market. Since back bacon shipments are roughly 95% of Dutch tonnages, it is not too difficult to work out the volumes coming into the UK. Calculating the size of the back bacon market is more difficult. But the Dutch have a large share of it. {{MEAT }}
