The Badger Brewery has stamped its mark on the Tesco Beer Challenge by winning the big brewer section for the second time. The brewer has made it to the final of the competition in its last five attempts. At the final judging last week Tesco beer buyer Andy Gale said: "Badger is getting extremely good at matching the Tesco brief. Both Badger and the other winning entry were streets ahead." Badger's prize is a 36 week listing across the Tesco estate. And it might not end there. Golden Champion was its first winner and this is now listed by all the major multiples and multiple off licence chains. This year the brewer will complete an extra bottling line designed to cope with the extra demand that has been created. The small brewer category of this spring's Tesco Challenge was won by Bass. It qualified for the award because the beer put forward was by the Museum Brewing Company, part of the Bass Museum at Burton-on-Trent. This has been brewing commercially on a small scale and recently took on the brewing of Worthington White Shield. This had been relinquished by Bass and handed over to King and Barnes. The bottle conditioned beer went back to Burton when King and Barnes was sold. The award could make a big difference for the Museum company as it also wins a guaranteed 36 week listing in as many Tesco outlets as it can supply. It has only just completed installing a small bottling line which should be running by the middle of February. The Bass Museum beer will be called Wulfric after the man who endowed the abbey in Burton in 1002, which was the start of brewing in the town. The Badger beer has yet to be named. Both are scheduled to go on the multiple's shelves in April. {{DRINKS }}
