After endorsing sunglasses, aftershave and mobile phones, David Beckham has ventured into food for the first time, investing in a new range of vitamin and omega-3 enriched frozen food products. Beckham has teamed up with supplement brand GO3, created by Findus UK owner Geir Frantzen, to launch the nine-strong range of meals, wraps and fish fingers aimed at encouraging young families to eat a healthier and more balanced diet.

With Beckham’s image gracing the products and a £5m investment in a marketing campaign to include TV ads, GO3 is estimating first-year sales of £15m.

Beckham has personally invested in the brand and is a major shareholder in the company. He told The Grocer he was interested in GO3’s recipes on a personal level and had been “intimately involved” with the manufacturing process.

“As a dad I know how hard it is to get kids to eat the right things,” he said. “I also know, as a footballer, how important it is to eat the right things to perform well, so I think the GO3 range is a great way to help families take some small steps to be fit and healthy at affordable prices.”

The ready meals will be available in Tesco next week, and include Chicken Pasta Bake, Traditional Fish Pie and Sweet & Sour Chicken Noodle Pot, rsp £1.29-£2.29. This will be followed by a range of children’s vitamin and mineral supplements including Junior Strawberry chewable Omega-3 and Vitamin Kicks football-shaped chews later in the month.

“It isn’t easy to get the whole family to eat omega-3, vitamins and minerals everyday but we’ve worked hard to enable families to do so in foods that kids will be happy to eat,” said Neil Sanderson, MD of GO3. “It’s timely because families are tightening their belts at the moment and won’t buy foods their kids won’t like.”

The vitamin supplements were launched in the US back in May but British consumers will be the first in the world to see the meal range.
