Sainsbury is stocking what it describes as a giant blueberry.
The size of a grape, it is three times larger than the usual variety. Fruit buyer Craig Sibbitt said: “Blueberries have long been known as power packs of nutritional goodness, and this bigger variety makes it even easier for customers to get their daily dose on the run or munch on as a healthy snack.”
Sales of blueberries at Sainsbury have risen 200% in the last three months.
Grown in New Zealand, the Nui blueberry is cultivated in the same conditions as standard berries and is simply a bigger variety. A punnet costs £2.49 and is available in 80 stores.
