Bodger and Badger join Britain's Got Talent-style cull fight

Kill list: Simon Bodger reads out Badger’s death warrant

Flashmob dances, charity singles and Brian May cameos: opposition to the badger cull has been like an extended series of Britain’s Got Talent, with Owen Paterson as ‘Mr Nasty’ Simon Cowell.

But as the cull began this week, Team Badger got its big guns out, too. Andy Cunningham - Simon Bodger from 1990s kids TV show Bodger & Badger - has pulled his puppet pal out of the loft for a moving short film.

In it, Badger gets a letter from the government, inviting him to a “all-night shooting adventure”. Bodger misreads it, and sends his buddy off to what he thinks is a paintball party. Things look bleak, as some ‘sad’ piano music suggests.

But news of the spud-loving irritant’s impending demise isn’t exactly up there with the shooting of Bambi’s mum. In fact, you wonder if Bodger - who must be tiring of the old mash-in-the-face routine - really did ‘misread’ that letter.
