What better than a large glass of chilled wine now that the weather has turned sunnier once again? Not so easy to get, however, if you happen to shop at Tesco in Shoreham, as my colleague found this week. She asked a member of staff if the store had a chilled cabinet for beers and wines as she wanted a chilled white wine for that evening. Sadly no, came the reply. However, fearing a lost sale, the canny assistant added: " I just advise people to pick up the one they want and stick it in with the frozen peas until they have finished shopping!"

My plea for some tea to go with the six pints of milk delivered by an online retailer did not go unnoticed (Bogof's Week, 26 August). No sooner had it appeared than those kind people over at Taylors of Harrogate sent a box of Yorkshire Tea to accompany the milk, determined to show us that its blend of tea created specifically to taste better in hard water areas would beat PG Tips any time. Even better, some fabulous biscuits accompanied the package. So thanks to Taylors of Harrogate - and yes, we are now all dunking away.

As you all know, we love our football here at The Grocer office, so the Liverpool fans among us were inconsolable when they heard Steven Gerrard had not succeeded in getting the England captaincy. But imagine how he will feel when he discovers that not only was he pipped to the post by Chelsea's John Terry, but that two books were outselling his autobiography in Amazon's bestsellers' list on the day of the announcement. One was the smash hit, Dangerous Book for Boys (recommended by Bogof's better half as a must-have for boys - and their fathers - across the country). The second, however, was none other than The Psychology of Persuasion, authored by our very own Careers File regular Philip Hesketh. Perhaps Gerrard should have read that before the interview with England coach Steve McClaren?
