Booths was caught up in a food scare earlier this month after four people in Lancashire fell ill after eating smoked mackerel bought at the northern supermarket chain.

The Food Standards Agency warned consumers not to eat the fish and Booths withdrew the affected batch from sale.

Supplier C&G Neve, based in Fleetwood, said a production fault had resulted in the mackerel being smoked at a temperature that was not high enough to kill bacteria.
