Retro beer Younger’s Tartan Special has been winning new fans in the off-trade after being revived by Wells & Young’s.
The brewer said the ale - official beer of Scotland’s Tartan Army in the 1978 World Cup - had enjoyed strong sales since being rolled out into Morrisons across Scotland a few weeks ago. Although the beer (rsp: £4.49/500ml four-pack) had been available only in the on-trade since the 1990s, brand awareness was strong, it added.
The brewer is in talks with other retailers and expects to hit more stores in Scotland. Wells & Young’s bought the brand from Heineken UK in 2011 along with McEwan’s Export.
