Sales of 80s classic Um Bongo are growing thanks to the “Heston Effect”, claims brand owner Gerber.
The company, which relaunched the brand last year, is adding a third flavour to its line-up - mango & apple (rsp: £1.29/one-litre carton) - which rolls out to Tesco next month. Original Tropical and Orangutan Orange are already available in one-litre cartons, with Original Tropical also in a 3 x 200ml pack at Asda for £1.
Gerber said Tesco was listing the new Um Bongo line in around 900 stores.
Sales of the brand have grown 383% year-on-year [IRI 52w/e 27 April 2013]. Heston Blumenthal featured the brand in his TV series Heston Fantastical foods last December.
