Aldi has launched a vegan, natural orange wine, becoming the first UK supermarket to stock the style.
The wine, simply called Orange Natural Wine (12.5% abv), is made by Romanian winery Cramele Recas.
It will hit the discounter’s shelves on 11 August as part of Aldi’s August Wine Festival range (rsp: £5.99/750ml).
It is a blend of 85% chardonnay and 15% Sauvignon Blanc grapes, made with no added yeast, SO2 or other additives, netting it its ‘natural’ credentials, aged in one-year-old French barriques for three months before being given a natural cold stabilisation and bottled.
The liquid itself had “dark straw colour with orange hints”, with “a delicate mélange of quince” on the nose and “elegant but discreet fruit flavours of stone fruits, backed up with a powerful tannin structure and long finish”, said Aldi.
