Pukka Pies is gearing up for a push into the convenience channel with its first on-the-go options.
In January, the Leicestershire supplier will roll out a handheld lineup comprising Sausage Roll (150g), Meat & Potato Pasty (180g) and a puff pastry pie in Steak, Minced Beef & Onion, Leek & Potato and Chicken & Vegetable variants (150g). Rsp is £1.49 across the chilled range.
Pukka’s move beyond evening meals came as the food-to-go market’s value was likely to grow to £21.7bn by 2021, said CEO Deborah Ewan. “The on-the-go sector is the natural place for us to grow, giving our customers an even wider choice of products in and out of the home.”
Details of the new snacks came during “a very successful year for Pukka Pies so far, with one million new shoppers added to our brand” Ewan added.
In June, the pie maker kicked off a £6m campaign, following its £8m push in 2017. Last year’s activity led to a 23.8% (£5.8m) rise in grocery value sales in the 52 weeks to 25 March 2018, making Pukka worth £30.2m [IRI].
